The National Junior Lifeguard Championships is an exciting component of the National Lifeguard Championships. Junior Lifeguards from all around the country will come together in Miami Beach, Florida, in the spirit of competition and good sportsmanship to compete in events that will help shape them for futures in professional lifesaving.

The Junior Lifeguards range in age from 9 to 17 years old and will be participating in seven events on Thursday Aug 9,2001.

Junior Lifeguard Events
Distance Run is an individual event run in the sand, on an out and back course.
Distance Swim is an individual event which requires an out and back swim through the surf zone with a funnel finish on the beach.
Rescue Board Race is an individual event sending competitors out through the surf on a rescue board around a buoy and back to the beach finish line.
Rescue Race is a simulated rescue event which requires a victim and a rescuer. The rescuer will swim to the victim already in place on the course. The victim may kick during the return to the beach. Both competitors must cross the finish line with equiptment in hand. The rescuer may wear fins.
Swim Relay is a five person team event where each member swims around an offshore buoy and returns to the beach and tags the next swimmer.
Beach Flags is an individual event requiring speed and agility in the soft sand. Competitors compete for flags in a race similar to musical chairs. The event continues until there is only one competitor remaining.
Run-Swim-Run is an individual event where competitors run a short distance on the beach, followed by an out and back buoy swim and finish with another beach run.
